George Hardwicke Spooner〔(Mocavo )〕 (10 December 1851 - 7 February 1933)〔''The Archdeacon Of Liverpool'' The Times (London, England), Thursday, Feb 09, 1933; p. 17.〕 was an Anglican priest and author〔Amongst others he wrote "The Ethics of Sunday School Work", 1886; "Inspiration", 1891; "A Word with You", 1894; Intercessory Services", 1899; and "Hymns for the South African War", 1902 > British Library web site accessed 13:16 GMT Tuesday 23 June 2015〕 in the first half of the Twentieth century.〔(London Gazette )〕
Spooner was educated at The King's School, Worcester and Pembroke College, Oxford〔"Alumni Oxonienses: The Members of the University of Oxford, 1715-1886" Foster,J (ED) V4 p1336: Oxford and London: Parker and Co.,1891〕 and ordained in 1874.〔ORDINATION AT CHESTER CATHEDRAL Cheshire Observer (Chester, England), Saturday, December 26, 1874; pg. 6; Issue 1168〕 After a curacy at All Saints, Liverpool he was Superintendent of the Liverpool Church of England Scripture Readers Society from 1876 to 1879. He held incumbencies at Litherland, Much Woolton and Walton-on-the-Hill;〔(British History On-line )〕 and was Rural Dean of Childwall from 1885 to 1906; Archdeacon of Warrington from 1906 to 1916;〔Crockford's Clerical Directory 1929/30 London, OUP, 1929〕 and Archdeacon of Liverpool from 1916 until his death.〔‘SPOONER, Ven.
